Two Indians among Forbes billionaire heiresses to watch

Two Indian women - Roshni Nadar and Nisa Godrej - have been listed among Forbes magazine's list of "a breed of heiresses who choose to live a lower-key life... and working to make a difference behind the scenes."

In its latest annual list of notable heiresses, the US business magazine said it "focused on these impressive women, placing more emphasis than in the past on their passion to make a difference, in their industries and elsewhere, rather than their fame or fabulousness quotient."

"Are these women simply trying to set good examples or will some eventually rise to the top of their family's billion-dollar businesses?" Forbes asks and notes "At least one, Roshni Nadar, daughter of Indian billionaire Shiv Nadar, is already on her way."

The 28-year-old graduate of Kellogg School of Management was appointed CEO of the HCL Group, a $5 billion technology company, in April last year, while her father remains chairman.

Alongside her CEO duties Roshni oversees the education initiatives of the Shiv Nadar Foundation. She has been involved in the VidyaGyan Schools initiative since inception and helped launch their first school in July 2009.

"These women to a degree illustrate that being the relative of a billionaire is not just about the money or the lifestyle so commonly associated with it. It's about the high standards, set by their family that they aspire to reach," says Forbes.

"Being the daughter of a billionaire is unimportant; being the daughter of parents who are superlative in their achievements is truly the best part. To live with, learn from and have access to parents who are role models to many is a blessing," Roshni is quoted as saying.

The other Indian woman on the list is Nisa Godrej, 31, daughter of Adi Godrej with a family net worth of $5.2 billion.

Nisa Godrej, who received her undergraduate degree from Wharton and has an MBA from Harvard, started at the Godrej group a decade ago as a management trainee at Godrej Sara Lee.

She was recently appointed president of Human Capital and Innovation at the Godrej group. In this role, she will be in charge of managing more than 20,000 employees.

Forbes said she is very involved in the cause of educating girls and has collaborated with the Dasra organization. She is also a member of the Indian Philanthropy Forum, an exclusive club of India's leading philanthropists.

What Appears to be the Dead Body of a Young Girl Has Been Discovered on Google Street View in the UK




The scene looks to be that of a typical UK neighborhood on Google’s Street View site. Well, except for one chilling difference… There is what appears to be the dead body of a young girl lying face down on the pavement, with her feet in the gutter.



Alarmed residents browsing their neighborhood contacted Google about the image, believing they had discovered a murder scene on the popular Street View tool. Google, unaware of the image, did some digging and found the truth about the scene… A ten-year-old girl had staged the event as a prank!
The “body” turned out to belong to ten-year-old Azura Beebeejaun who has revealed she was “playing dead” as a prank outside her home in Middle Road, Worcester.

Apple chief Steve Jobs unveils iPhone 4

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs on Monday unveiled the "iPhone 4," the latest touchscreen smartphone from the California gadget maker.

"We are going to take the biggest leap since the original iPhone," Jobs said in a keynote speech at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at San Fransisco.

Jobs said the iPhone 4 includes more than 100 new features including a front-facing video camera to allow for video-conferencing, a better still camera, improved battery life and a screen with higher resolution.

"There has never been a display like this on a phone," Jobs said.

The 3.5-inch screen is the same size as on previous models but features 326 pixels per inch, four times more pixels than the earlier iPhones.

"There is a magic number around 300 pixels per inch that is the limit of the human retina," Jobs said. "We are over that limit."

"That's going to set the standard for display for years to come," he said.

The improved battery allows for 40 percent more talk time, Jobs said.

He also said the iPhone is 24 percent thinner than the previous model, iPhone 3GS.

"It is really thin," Jobs. "It is one of the most beautiful designs you've ever seen. Its closest kin is a beautiful old Leica camera."

The Apple chief executive also joked that some of the attendees may have seen the phone previously "because there are have been a few photos around."

Technology blog Gizmodo obtained a prototype of the phone in April from a 21-year-old man who found it in a California beer garden, where it had been lost by an Apple software engineer.

If only X-Ray glasses existed!

X-Ray Specs consist of an outsized pair of glasses with plastic frames and white cardboard "lenses" printed with concentric red circles, and emblazoned with the legend "X-RAY VISION".

The lenses consist of two layers of cardboard with a small hole about 6 mm (.25 inch) in diameter punched through both layers. The user views objects through the holes. A feather is embedded between the layers of each lens.
X-Ray Specs were long advertised with the slogan "See the bones in your hand, see through clothes!" Some versions of the advertisement featured an illustration of a young man using the X-Ray Specs to examine the bones in his hand while a voluptuous (but fully-dressed) woman stood in the background, as though awaiting her turn to be "X-rayed."
