Two Indians among Forbes billionaire heiresses to watch

Two Indian women - Roshni Nadar and Nisa Godrej - have been listed among Forbes magazine's list of "a breed of heiresses who choose to live a lower-key life... and working to make a difference behind the scenes."

In its latest annual list of notable heiresses, the US business magazine said it "focused on these impressive women, placing more emphasis than in the past on their passion to make a difference, in their industries and elsewhere, rather than their fame or fabulousness quotient."

"Are these women simply trying to set good examples or will some eventually rise to the top of their family's billion-dollar businesses?" Forbes asks and notes "At least one, Roshni Nadar, daughter of Indian billionaire Shiv Nadar, is already on her way."

The 28-year-old graduate of Kellogg School of Management was appointed CEO of the HCL Group, a $5 billion technology company, in April last year, while her father remains chairman.

Alongside her CEO duties Roshni oversees the education initiatives of the Shiv Nadar Foundation. She has been involved in the VidyaGyan Schools initiative since inception and helped launch their first school in July 2009.

"These women to a degree illustrate that being the relative of a billionaire is not just about the money or the lifestyle so commonly associated with it. It's about the high standards, set by their family that they aspire to reach," says Forbes.

"Being the daughter of a billionaire is unimportant; being the daughter of parents who are superlative in their achievements is truly the best part. To live with, learn from and have access to parents who are role models to many is a blessing," Roshni is quoted as saying.

The other Indian woman on the list is Nisa Godrej, 31, daughter of Adi Godrej with a family net worth of $5.2 billion.

Nisa Godrej, who received her undergraduate degree from Wharton and has an MBA from Harvard, started at the Godrej group a decade ago as a management trainee at Godrej Sara Lee.

She was recently appointed president of Human Capital and Innovation at the Godrej group. In this role, she will be in charge of managing more than 20,000 employees.

Forbes said she is very involved in the cause of educating girls and has collaborated with the Dasra organization. She is also a member of the Indian Philanthropy Forum, an exclusive club of India's leading philanthropists.

Sujata Survase, the 25-year-old Air India air hostess from Mumbai who lost her life in the Mangalore crash on Saturday, chillingly enough seemed to have had a hunch about the impending tragedy. Her last status update on a social networking site said: "I hate goodbyes but I guess it's time."
Sujata, who lived in Andheri, had a BA degree in philosophy from Bhavan's College, Andheri. According to her networking profile, she believed in Buddhist philosophy, loved dancing to hip hop, swore by the television show Friends and hated books, which she mischievously described as "good sleeping pills".
The young woman, who had been working with Air India Express for the last three years, was expecting a transfer back to Mumbai, after postings in Cochin and then Mangalore. She loved her job. "I believe I can fly and so I am" she wrote in her job description on her profile. "She had struggled a lot to become an air hostess. The mobile number that rang the death knell

The Bulgarian mobile phone number - 0888 888 888 - has been suspended after every person who used it in the past 10 years died. The last man to own it was gunned down outside an Indian restaurant in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.
Vladimir Grashnov, former CEO of Bulgarian mobile phone company Mobitel, was the first user and he died of cancer in 2001. He was 48.

The number was then assigned to Bulgarian mafia boss Konstantin Dimitrov. He was shot dead down in 2003 in the Netherlands. He was 31.

Dimitrov had the mobile phone with him when he was shot while eating out with a model, Daily Mail reported Wednesday.

The exclusive number then passed on to businessman Konstantin Dishliev who was shot dead outside an Indian restaurant in Sofia in 2005. Dishliev had been running a cocaine trafficking operation before he was killed.

The phone number has now been suspended. Callers get to hear the message that the phone is outside network coverage.

A Mobitel spokesperson said: 'We have no comment to make. We won't discuss individual numbers.'

Weird creature measured 6ft long

A mysterious creature horrified holidaymakers after it washed up on a beach on the Gower Peninsula in Wales. The writhing mass of tentacles, which measured at least 6ft from end to end.




The barnacles – long writhing stalks or pendulates, tipped with shells – are normally found deep below the waves, but were washed up clinging to a log.

Serial blasts rock Delhi

Five explosions rocked three crowded markets in Delhi on Saturday evening, leaving at least 18 people dead.
The blasts at Ghaffar market in Karol Bagh, Connaught Place and Greater Kailash (M-block) took place in a quick succession, police said.
The first blast took place at Ghaffar market in which at least 20 people were injured. They were rushed to nearby RML Hospital.
Immediately after that, two explosions took place in Connaught Place in which at least 10 people were injured.
Another explosion rocked M-Block market in Greater Kailash-I.
The impact of the blasts in Karol Bagh could be gauged by the fact that an auto was thrown up and got caught in the electrical wires.
Senior Police officials including Joint Commissioner of Police Karnail Singh rushed to the spot in the central district and were assessing the situation.
SIMI has claimed responsibility for the blasts and has termed them as 'Operation Bad'.
Earlier, in an email to media organisations, Indian Mujahideen, the terror outfit that had claimed responsibility for the July 26 Ahmedabad blasts, said it had carried out the serial blasts in Delhi. It threatened that there would be nine blasts in all.
Sarojini Nagar market, scene of the pre-Diwali eve blasts in 2005, in which more than 60 people were killed, has been evacuated.
